Throughout life, our home along with our community choice helps enable our lifestyles – whether it’s raising a family, being able to travel extensively for work or pleasure, living as empty nesters, and enjoying outdoor or social/cultural activities. When people think about downsizing, it can be both emotional and a bit overwhelming. Life changes can be emotionally uplifting or downright daunting – and we often have attachments to many things we collect throughout our lives. There is definitely work involved but, in the end, the experience of downsizing is often very liberating when you find yourself in a smaller home with less “stuff”, less upkeep and more personal time for travel, hobbies, relaxation or socializing. Understanding Your Options

Downsizing can take many shapes. For some, it may mean moving into a smaller detached home (possibly with a suite to generate income and have the property kept up while travelling); for others it may mean a villa/townhome with main floor living with a garage and yard; for others it may be a condo where you can “lock it and leave it” when travelling; and for some it may be an apartment (rental or condo) with independent or assisted living in a facility with excellent amenities, extensive social and exercise programs and optional meal programs. I can help you understand your options – pros/cons, costs and availability. Accessibility and mobility may or may not be considerations – my job is to ensure your choice will be reflective of your lifestyle goals, needs and budget.

Making a Plan

Once you are clear on your goals, I can help you prepare your home for sale to help get top dollar. This may involve a preinspection, making some minor repairs and improvements (inside and/or outside), decluttering and organizing. In addition to rolling up my sleeves, I can connect you with services who can assist with decluttering and organizing, living estate sales, garage sales, donation of extra clothing and household items etc. I have an extensive network of resources at your disposal – and many preferred vendors which offer discounts on products and services through our Best My Nest VIP Homeowner program which is complimentary for CIR Realty clients.
